June 1 – 6 Bible Reading Guide

LynnBible Reading Guide

Monday, June 1, Revelation 18

Vv. 2, 20 — Babylon, in the Old Testament, was the heathen nation which brought Judah into Babylonian Captivity (II Kings 25:1-21 & II Chron. 36:15-20). As God freed Judah from that captivity (II Chron. 36:21-23 and Ezra 1)), so He’ll free the Christian Church in the last days from Babylon the Great. Babylon the Great is the apostate church with her secular allies. The horrible downfall of Babylon the Great is described in chap. 18. Its downfall will cause the saints to rejoice as St. John wrote, “Rejoice over her, O heaven! Rejoice, saints and apostles and prophets! God has judged her for the way she treated you.” (v. 20)

Tuesday, June 2, Revelation 19:1-10

  1. 1 — There is a roar in heaven! What’s all the shouting about? In vv. 1-8 we have the beginning of a great hymn of praise. All the saints and angels in heaven are praising the Lord, as chapters 19-22 describe this world’s end and God’s beginning of a new heaven and earth, our home of righteousness. (II Peter 3:13) “Hallelujah” means “Praise the Lord.”
  2. 9 — One of the descriptions of heaven is that of a marriage. As a wedding is a very happy occasion, so is our life in heaven.

Wednesday, June 3, Revelation 19:11-21

  1. 11-16 — We see an awesome description of Jesus as He leads the armies of heaven.
  2. 11 — The rider on the white horse is Jesus. Compare Rev. 1:13-16. The crown He wears is symbolic of His divine and universal rule. As in chap. 6:2, the word “crown” is symbolic of victory.
  3. 15 — As juice was pressed from grapes by walking on them, so Jesus will crush the enemies of the church.
  4. 20 — The beast and false prophets are very likely the Beast of the Sea, symbolic of Anti-Christian governments and the Beast of the Earth, symbolic of the Anti-Christ and Anti-Christian forces (Rev. 13 and II Thess. 2:1-4). Their horrible end is described in vv. 20-21.

Thursday, June 4, Revelation 20

  1. 2 — Because most of the numbers are symbolic in Revelation, the number 1,000 refers to the entire New Testament era. In the rest of Scripture there is no place where 1,000 years is described as an exact period of time before Judgment Day.
  2. 6 — The first resurrection is a spiritual resurrection. This is the conversion of sinners from spiritual death to spiritual life. See also Rom. 6:1-14; Col. 3:1-10; Eph. 2:4-10. The second resurrection on Judgment Day is described in I Thess. 4:13-18. The second death is eternal death, the home of the devil, his evil angels and all unbelievers.
  3. 8 — In Ez. 38-39, Gog and Magog are the great enemies of God’s people. The horrible, final end of God’s enemies is shown in vv. 10, 14-15.

Friday, June 5, Revelation 21

  1. 1 — The concept of a new heaven and earth is also found in Isaiah 65:17, 66:22 and II Peter 3:13. Luther believed after this world is destroyed by fire, God would fashion a new heaven and earth out of its remains. For John in exile, the sea separated him from those he loved. “In heaven there will be no sea” could mean nothing will separate us ever from our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Vv. 4, 10-27 — Our life in Paradise or the New Heaven and Earth will be simply astounding!  Most of the description of it in vv. 9-21 is in symbolic language.

Saturday, June 6, Revelation 22

Vv. 7, 12, 20 — Three times God emphasized, “I am coming soon!”  Let’s heed that warning and always be prepared as were the 10 wise virgins. Because sin, immorality and false prophets are growing by leaps and bounds throughout the world and it would appear that the battle of Armegeddon has begun, with John we pray, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”

JUDE — Jude, in one brief chapter similar to II Peter 2, writes to

Christians who were being attacked by false teachers. As in II Peter, Jude presents the Gospel of God’s grace as an antidote to false teaching.

  1. 1 — We are kept by Jesus Christ! What an encouragement in these godless days! Yes, we need to watch out for those who change the grace of God into a license for immorality. God warns us so we don’t fall into that same spiritual disaster.

Vv. 20-21 — In these 2 beautiful verses, Jude has the answer to avoid what happened to Cain, Korah and Balaam (v. 11; Gen. 4:1-8; Num. 22-25, 26:9-11)and the false teachers in v. 4. Someday, following Jude’s exhortation, we’ll meet Michael, Moses and Enoch in heaven
