I’m looking forward to when we can say, “It’s over!” The deadly pandemic is over. We don’t have to be trapped in our houses anymore. We can get back to work. We can get back to our lives. We don’t have to be afraid anymore.

It’s not that there won’t be any problems. It’s just that this big one, this one that’s threatening the entire world will be contained. And we will be free again.

That reminds me of something that Jesus said. In John 19, Jesus said “It is finished.” With those words he conquered Satan, the one who was throwing the whole world into chaos. And he set us free. We aren’t trapped in sin anymore. We can get to our Lord’s work. We can get back to life. Not life as sin defines it, but life as God defines it (John 8:32).

It’s not that there aren’t any temptations anymore. It’s just that the big one, “the one who leads the whole world astray” (Rev 12:9) was contained (Rev 20:2-3). We don’t have to be afraid anymore.

It is finished! is a big deal. When the pandemic is finished, there is important work to be done. People are hurting. Lives are broken. And Jesus is our only hope.

I’m looking forward to when we can tell people about Jesus. True, we are still doing it now. But then, we will be able to do it together. Let’s think about that. Let’s start getting ready to bring freedom and life to a world that now knows what it’s like to be trapped and afraid. The virus will be done, but sin will still need to be conquered.

Jesus did that. It is finished. Now we just have to let people know about it.

Looking forward to when it’s done.
