If a child is to be safe, it’s better for the parent to hang on to the child, than for the child to hang on to the parent. In the same way, our salvation doesn’t rest on our strength or our ability to hang on; it rests on God’s untiring power. A child will, however, still put his arms around his parent’s neck. It makes them feel safer and it shows love. That’s the way our faith puts its little arms around our Heavenly Father: Our faith doesn’t make us more secure, but it does show our love and our trust.
